Do You Need An Eye Exam? Signs It's Time

2 Minutes Posted on:

Your eyes and your vision need to be cared for, and the health of both should be maintained in order to see clearly each and every day. Over time, your vision can change or worsen, leaving you with an inability to see clearly. If you don't take care of your vision, this can happen much sooner rather than later in life. Having an eye exam is one way to prevent worsening vision. If you aren't sure if you need an eye exam, read on for helpful information to use as a guide.

You Haven't Had An Exam In Awhile

If it's been longer than a year since your last eye exam, it's probably time to have an eye exam. An eye exam can catch issues with your eyes or your vision and treat the conditions to help prevent them from worsening. You should have an eye exam each year, beginning when you are of school age. If you have younger children, your children should begin getting their eyes examined beginning just before they start school, unless you see any other warning signs of a vision problem.

Your Eyes Are Bothering You

If your eyes are beginning to bother you in any way, such as they feel itchy all of the time, your eyes feel dry, or it feels like there is something in your eyes all of the time, you should have your eyes examined. You could have allergies, there may very well be something in your eyes, or you could have dry eye syndrome. Either way, you should have an eye exam and have your eyes treated as necessary.

Your Vision Has Worsened

If your vision has worsened and you are beginning to squint in order to see, even if you are squinting through your prescription lenses, you need to have your eyes checked. You squinting will only make your vision worse. You need to get corrective lenses in order to see or an updated prescription in order to see clearly. Squinting can lead to eye strain, headaches and other issues as well.

If you aren't sure if you need to go in for an eye exam, trust your gut and go in for the exam. Have your eyes examined to be sure there isn't a problem or a health concern of any type with your eyes or your vision. Talk to your eye doctor about any issues you may be having with your eyes or your vision.
